Troubleshooting

The registry answers every failed request with a status and a code; the shadcn CLI prints both under its own message.

Registry errors

Registry error codes, what they mean and how to fix them
Status	Code	Meaning	What to do
401	`missing_licence_key`	The request had no key.	Check that `SNOW_UI_PRO_TOKEN` is set where you run the CLI and that `components.json` has the `headers` of `@snow-ui-pro` exactly as in the installation guide.
401	`invalid_licence_key`	The key is malformed or unknown.	Copy the key again from your purchase email: `snowpro_` and 32 characters, no spaces or quotes around it.
403	`licence_pending`	The payment went through, but the key email isn’t confirmed yet.	Wait a few minutes and try again. If it persists, write to support.
403	`licence_revoked`	This key no longer works: usually it was replaced (a lost or leaked key, a re-sent email), or the licence was ended.	Use the newest key you were sent; support can tell you which one is current.
403	`licence_refunded`	The order was refunded, which ends the licence.	If that’s unexpected, write to support.
403	`updates_expired`	The 12 months of updates have ended.	What you installed keeps working. New versions need a new licence.
404	`not_found`	No item has that name (your key was accepted).	Check the spelling, or list the catalogue with `npx shadcn@latest search @snow-ui-pro`.
429	`rate_limited, too_many_failures`	Too many requests from one IP address or with one licence, or too many invalid keys from one IP address.	Wait for the time in the message (Retry-After) and try again.

CLI errors before any request

“Registry "@snow-ui-pro" requires the following environment variables”

The CLI didn’t find SNOW_UI_PRO_TOKEN. Put it in .env.local or .env at the project root (the folder with components.json) and run the CLI from there, or export it in your shell.

“Unknown registry "@snow-ui-pro"”

components.json has no registries entry for it. Add both registries as in the installation guide.

A snow-ui component can’t be found

Pro items install the free components from @snow-ui: that registry must be in components.json too.

The item renders without styles

The snow-ui theme isn’t loaded, or Tailwind doesn’t scan the new files. Import the theme after Tailwind in your stylesheet (see setting up snow-ui) and restart the dev server.
